How the built-in electronic signing flow works for landlords and tenants.
Domara has built-in e-signatures — no DocuSign or third-party tools needed. When you send a lease for signing, the entire process happens inside Domara.
How signing works
For you (the landlord)
- After generating or uploading a lease, click Save & Send for Signature
- You'll be prompted to sign first — draw or type your signature
- Once you sign, the lease is sent to your tenant(s) via email
For tenants
- Tenants receive an email with a link to review and sign
- They can read the full lease, then draw or type their signature
- Once all parties sign, the lease is automatically marked as Active
What happens after signing
- A signed PDF is generated with all signatures embedded
- Both you and the tenant can download it from the Documents page
- The lease status changes to Active and rent collection can begin
Signing deadlines
You can configure a default signing deadline in Settings (default is 14 days). If a tenant hasn't signed within that window, they'll receive reminder emails.
Tips
- Signing reminders can be enabled or disabled in Settings
- Multiple tenants — each tenant signs individually; the lease activates when all have signed
- Signed leases are legally binding — electronic signatures are valid under the ESIGN Act
